Wondering what to do if you don’t go to university?
When results day rolled around, Lara found she did not get the grades she needed to go to her first choice University (Edinburgh). Her second choice didn’t interest her much and her parents were conflicted on whether she should go to Uni at all. Her father argued that she needed a degree, but her mother disagreed.
So, Lara decided to take a few months off travelling to develop her independence and explore what she wanted to do. On her return she completed three consecutive internships where she experienced marketing and retail – areas she thought she was interested in. However, during this time she realised that this type of work and environment were not really what she had hoped for. This left her feeling increasingly lost, losing confidence and isolated from all her friends who were seemingly having such fun at university.
Something needed to be done, so Lara decided to talk to Forward to help her clarify her skills and interests. This led to a transformative change. Having refocused and zoned in on what she wanted Lara was able to make progress. Realising these skills and interests lay in sales and communications, she secured a fabulous job in a boutique travel agency where she is thriving and loving life.
